Single family house
Resell+Nicca have been commissioned by Kniveåsen AS for the development of two housing projects on a sloping site with great views over Drammensfjorden.
Villa Vidsyn is located on the upper side of the access road, and consists of three floors that are offset relative to each. The shifting extend of the floors creates terraces and roof coverings on different levels on the slope, making these areas usable to the inhabitants, and connecting the house to the surrounding terrain.
One enters the building from the level of the street, and the groundfloor accommodate a large garage, a small apartment that can be rented out, and a spacious entrance. Here one finds a centrally located staircase (and elevator) that runs through the house and connects all three floors. The first floor accommodates 4 bedrooms, bathrooms, storage facilities, as well as a flexible living area. From this floor one has direct access to the garden on both sides of the house, and to a balcony overlooking the street and the fjord.
The main living areas are located on the second floor, as a coherent spatial sequence surrounding a centrally located core. The organization creates a large degree of openness in all directions, providing good visual contact with the central areas of Drammen too the north, as well as the outer parts of the Fjord to the south. On the west side the house opens up towards a large private garden, and from here a staircase brings one up to a roof terrace with a 360 degree view.
