Single family house
Resell+Nicca have been commissioned by Kniveåsen AS for the development of two housing projects on a sloping site with great views over Drammensfjorden.
The residence is located on the lower side of the access road and consists of three floors. The top floor is articulated as a wooden box that is suspended towards the fjord, while the lower lying parts of the building is given a stone facade.
The entrance is located on the second floor, and from here one has direct contact with the main living areas and a central vertical core (with staircase and elevator). The core provides connection to the underlying floors and a roof terrace on top of the house. From the living room, kitchen and dining area, one has visual contact with the fjord to the north-east, and a lush private garden to the west. The orientation of the garden provides optimized sun conditions.
An opening in the floor corresponds with the central core, and runs all the way down through the house. The opening represents a dramatic spatial sequence, and provides visual contact between top and bottom of the building.
The first floor accommodate three bedrooms, a bathroom and a flexible living area. From here one has direct access to a sunny outdoor space to the west, and visual contact with the fjord. The master bedroom is located on the ground floor, with direct access to the garden in front of the house. Furthermore this floor contain a library, and an apartment that can be rented out.
