The project involves expanding an existing apartment on the 4th floor into the attic above. The apartment is located in a listed building on St.Hanshaugen, and has a great views over major parts of Oslo to the north, south and east.
Local preservation authorities laid down strict limitations on the number and size of windows, and one of the main challenges was therefore to ensure maximum utilization of the openings in terms of views and daylight. The solution was to create a large opening between the levels, so that all of the main functions in the appartement are relating to a double height room with a ceiling height of 7 meters at the top. This way daylight from all the windows will benefit both levels, while one has views to the city from the upper level through existing windows on the 4th floor.
The apartment is characterized by extensive use of custom designed solutions. The clients are skilled cabinet makers, and has created a majority of the solutions themselves.
